Patrick Newell Signs NHL Entry Level Contract with the New York Rangers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Penticton, BC – March 29, 2019 – Kaizen Sports & Entertainment Ltd. is pleased to announce that client, Patrick Newell, has agreed to terms with the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL) on an Entry Level Contract (ELC) beginning in 2019-20.

The two-year deal will run through the 2020-21 season. Pat will join the Hartford Wolfpack of the American Hockey League (AHL) for the remainder of their season.

Newell, 23, will forever be etched into the St. Cloud Huskies’ record books after topping the hundred-point mark this season.

It’s been a busy year for Patrick.

The California native led the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) with 47 points in 38 games, earning him the prestigious 2018-19 NCHC award for Top Forward, which he adds to his NCHC award for Sportsmanship.

The Hobey Baker is awarded every year to the best NCAA men’s hockey player. Pat’s significant contribution to St. Cloud’s success has been significant and the NCAA Hobey Baker committee took notice, naming Pat as a 2019 Hobey Baker Top 10 Finalist.

Pat’s career trajectory has been a steady progression, showing a true commitment.

In 2012, Newell began his junior career at the age of sixteen with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). In 2013-14 he joined the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League (USHL), winning the USHL Clark Cup. In 2014-15, Patrick took the opportunity to experience hockey in Canada and joined the legendary Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). After leading the Vees in scoring, he made the leap into the Huskies program.

“Anyone who has met Patrick knows that he has a strong positive attitude and that it is infectious,” stated Kaizen Managing Director Michael O’Rafferty. “There is much more to Patrick than the obvious star you see on the ice. He is exceptionally well read and has an educated opinion on, for example, environmental and world issues. What impresses me most about Patrick is his love of learning, both in hockey and in life. On the ice, he has a stunning capacity to mix analysis with improvisation, which makes him a threat in all zones. The Rangers are getting a top talent who will bring them value, on many levels, for years to come.”
